WHAT WE DO
Disability Assistance Dogs is a charity based in Northern Ireland. It was formed with the following two purposes in mind:
-
To provide training to people, resident in Northern Ireland, who have certain disabilities and who are dog owners, to develop the potential of their dogs to assist them with their disability. The disabilities catered for include the following: Epilepsy, Diabetes, Nut Allergy and people with impaired mobility.
-
To conduct research for a PhD at Queen's University which will search for evidence of the innate response of some family pet dogs to epileptic seizure onset. Additionally, determine the bio-markers which trigger the alerting response in dogs with a view to assisting in the development of a wearable alerting device.
